The Guyana Police Force is investigating the death of a 21 year old Parfaite Harmonie, WBD man who died at the West Demerara Regional Hospital (WDRH) on Monday night after he was involved in two separate accidents.

The dead man was identified as Shaquan Joe of 1358 School Street, Parfaite Harmonie, WBD.

A police statement said that Joe was riding motorcycle CL 9686 when pedestrian, Compton Bowen, 59, of, Parfaite Har-monie attempted to cross the Canal Number One Access road. Bowen, according to the police, stepped into the path of the oncoming motorcycle precipitating a collision. As a result of the impact, Joe fell hitting his head on the road. Public-spirited residents then picked him up in an unconscious state and placed him in pick-up 6631 to be transported to the WDRH.

The police report then added that the pick-up with hazard lights on, and proceeding north on the West Bank of Demerara Public Road attempted to overtake a line of traffic in the vicinity of Versailles. In the process, the front right-side of the pick-up collided with motorcar PAB 5231, owned and driven by a police constable.

Gregory Nurse, the father of the deceased, told Stabroek News yesterday that around 5.17 pm on Monday, he received a call that his son had been involved in an accident. He proceeded to the site of the first accident where residents informed him that his son had already been taken to the hospital. On his way to the hospital, Nurse said he observed another accident. There he was informed by someone that his son was in one of the vehicles involved in  the second accident.

Nurse said that when he arrived at the Accident and Emergency Unit of the hospital, he was informed that doctors and nurses were attempting to stabilize Joe. He was later informed by a doctor that Joe would have to be transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital, however minutes later, Nurse was advised that his son was ‘brain dead’.  Nurse said he left and later returned to check on Joe’s condition but was informed that he  had succumbed.

Nurse told Stabroek News yesterday that he is not satisfied with the Police’s response on the day of the accident. Nurse added that the police visited his ex-wife to give their condolences, however he felt ignored because of the lack of response from the police to several inquiries he had made to both the Vreed-en-Hoop and La Grange police stations. The deceased’s body is currently lying at the Ezekiel Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
