The Guyana Fire and Rescue Service (GFS) says that the blaze  which occurred yesterday on the West Bank Demerara (WBD) that left two occupants homeless, and one on Sunday on the West Coast Berbice (WCB) that caused severe damage to a property, were the result of arson.

The owner of a one-flat wooden home, Denise Adonis, 56, along with Christie Phoenix, 58, occupied the house that was destroyed by fire yesterday at Market Street, Wales,WBD. Ronda Archer, 59, was the owner of Little Treasures Play School, a two-storey wooden and concrete school situated at Lot 2021 Golden Fleece, WCB which was damaged by fire on Sunday.

The GFS release emphasised that the perpetrators, once caught, “will face the full brunt of the law.” It also encouraged citizens to report suspected arson attacks or any related information to the police.

According to the GFS, they received a call at 3:35 am alerting them to the fire at Market Street. Water tender # 111 and the crew from the La Grange Fire Station were immediately dispatched to the location. Using one jet operating from Water Tender # 111, the tank supply was used to extinguish the fire.

The Fire Service further stated that at the fire that occurred on Sunday at the Little Treasures Play School one jet working from Water Tender # 97 tank supply was used to extinguish the fire. As a result of the fire, two chairs, a wooden cupboard with documents and a wall on the north eastern side of the building were severely damaged.
