Shop owner, reputed husband shot in ‘B’ Field Sophia – police

The Police say they are investigating the shooting of a 34-year-old businesswoman of ‘B’ Field Sophia and her reputed husband, a 47-year-old minibus driver of the said address, by three men armed with handguns, which occurred at the victim’s home at about 9.20 pm yesterday.

Both victims – who the police did not name – are presently receiving treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit.

Their conditions are listed as stable.

Investigation revealed that the businesswoman resides at the address with her reputed husband and their two children, and she owns a grocery shop located in front of her home.

According to her husband, on the date and time mentioned, his wife was sitting in front of her shop in the company of her friend while he was sitting in the shop.

He said that while there, he observed a black tinted motorcar, model and registration number unknown, drive up from the northern direction, on B Field, and stop in front of the shop. The three suspects exited the car, all armed with handguns and faces covered with masks. The suspects approached his wife and discharged several rounds at him and his wife.

The men then re-entered the car and escaped.

The driver said he immediately picked up his reputed wife and carried her to the GPHC with his minibus.

He sustained two gunshot injuries to his upper back, while his wife suffered gunshot injuries to the right side of her face, two to her right arm and one to her left elbow.

The Police processed the scene, and four 9mm spent shells and a suspected warhead were found at the scene.

CCTV cameras attached to the victims’ shop were viewed, and footage was extracted. Investigations are in progress.
