The Rose Hall Jammers and prospect Keon Britton earned the marquee accolades when the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) staged its Pepsi/Mike Parris School Boys and Juniors championships yesterday at the Andrew ‘Sixhead’ Lewis Gym.

Britton, a standout from the Vergenoegen Boxing Gym (VBG), punched his way to a second round stoppage of Jaden Lewis and then returned to the ring to outbox Curtis McDonald in a thriller to earn the coveted best boxer award at the event.

In what was adjudged as ‘the fight of the day’, Britton and McDonald stood toe-to-toe, fighting in a phone booth style, trading punches in bunches, much to the jubilation of the small but raucous crowd that circled the ring.

However, at the end of the three exciting rounds, following chants of ‘Blue corner!, Red Corner!, the judges awarded Britton the ‘W’ against his 39-41kg rival.

The visiting Rose Hall boxers stole the show however and tallied six points on the nine-fight card to lift the Best Gym trophy ahead of runner up, VBG.

Other winners on the card included: Roopesh Balgobin, Alexandro Young, Travis Sancho, Matthew Thomas, Arlington Johnson, Sherry Wintz and Jofes Jackson.

At the conclusion of the event, GBA executive member, Seon Bristol presented medals and trophies to the boxers and officials which included Best Coach, Gregory Cort of Rose Hall and Best Referee/Judge, Lawrence Assannah.
