Residents of Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara are expressing concern over the uncoordinated relocation of tombs at the community’s burial ground to facilitate the installation of drainage pumps, with the lack of consultation and the disrespectful handling of their loved ones’ remains causing distress.

The issue came to light after the Ministry of Health (MoH) posted a Facebook notice on January 30, announcing that tombs at the Golden Grove Burial Ground would have to be relocated due to ongoing construction aimed at improving drainage in the Diamond/Grove area. However, residents argue that this notification came too late—after some tombs had already been destroyed or lost in the construction zone.
