The police say they are investigating a fatal accident which occurred at about 2.25 pm yesterday on the public road at Charity, Essequibo Coast, which resulted in the death of Troy Singh, a 30-year-old motorcyclist.

The accident involved Singh’s motorcycle (CM 6673) and a motor lorry (GDD 5397), owned and driven by a 47-year-old man from Charity Housing Scheme, a release from the police said.

The lorry driver said he was proceeding west on the Charity public road, while the motorcyclist was proceeding east at a fast rate. The lorry driver said he was making a right turn on the road when he suddenly saw the motorcyclist, who lost control and skidded towards his vehicle on the road surface. The motorcycle collided with the front of the lorry.

The driver said he picked up the motorcyclist in an unconscious state and conveyed him to the Charity Cottage Public Hospital, where he was seen and examined by Doctor N. Cozier, GMO, for trauma to the head and lacerations about his body.

The victim was pronounced dead at 2.37 pm while receiving medical attention.

The lorry driver was arrested and escorted to the Charity Police Station, where he was placed into custody, assisting with the ongoing investigation.
