-Village captains query plans for consultation protocol

Addressing the National Toshaos Conference yesterday, President Irfaan Ali pledged economic diversification, cultural preservation and modern infrastructure and later in the day village captains raised questions about the process for giving consent which is being hammered out.

Speaking at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre, Ali highlighted his government’s commitment to listening to and delivering for Amerindian communities, emphasising a relationship built on trust and respect. He detailed advancements made between 2020 and 2024, particularly in healthcare and education across hinterland regions. He acknowledged the vital role of border communities in defending national sovereignty and called for a united path towards sustained prosperity.

Ali told attendees that his government is “one that you can trust to deliver to you,” citing a consistent track record of fulfilling promises.
