Police using body cameras – commanders

National healthcare overhaul in works

Government through a partnership with Mount Sinai Health System and oil company Hess Corporation on Friday announced major plans to transform national healthcare, including the overhaul of both the public and private health systems, and setting up of oncology and cardiovascular centres of excellence.

GRA says use of its eServices can speed up transactions

The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) handles over 70,000 driver’s licences and records at least 300,000 visits every year and Commissioner-General, Godfrey Statia is encouraging persons to utilize its online services in order to ease the daily build-up at the agency’s headquarters.

Eccles gets $37m fire station

A new $37m fire station was yesterday commissioned at Eccles, East Bank Demerara (EBD) and Minister of Home Affairs, Robeson Benn reminded fire-fighters that they must always be “ready, responsible, capable and engaged” as the responsiveness to fires has always been an issue which they should not fail at.

Cyanide suspected in deaths of men found in Marriott parking lot

Although it was initially suspected that Paishnarine Hansraj, 25, and Justin Teixeira, 34, the two men found dead in the Guyana Marriott Hotel parking lot on Saturday, may have overdosed on a drug, investigators have been told that a substance found near them is suspected to be sodium cyanide, a poison which can be fatal in small doses.

Cops seeking community help to tackle crime, social ills at Baramita

Incidents of wounding, domestic violence and assaults are some of the most prevalent crimes in the community of Baramita, in Region One, and Police Commander Superintendent Himnauth Sawh has said that the necessary actions are being taken to tackle the social issues at their root, which he described as “manageable” “I am pleased to report that I am aware of those issues and I have already begun to make efforts with my teams across the region to ensure that we get greater community involvement because most of those issues are social issues and we as the police can’t tackle it alone.
