Lowenfield defies GECOM Chair

Lowenfield gets 11am deadline for recount report

Embattled Chief Election Officer (CEO) Keith Lowenfield has been given up to 11 am today by Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) Chair Claudette Singh to produce a final report of the March 2nd general elections using the results of the national recount of votes.

GECOM Chair rules that recount result be used

More than three months after the March 2 polls, Guyana’s Chief Election Officer (CEO) Keith Lowenfield has been ordered to prepare a declaration of the results of the General and Regional Elections (GRE) using the data generated from the National Recount.

Recount ‘completely acceptable’ for declaration of result

In a blistering report the three-person scrutinizing team from CARICOM declared that the National Recount of votes and by extension the March 2, 2020 general and regional elections were sufficiently transparent to reflect the will of the Guyanese people and form the basis for the declaration of the results.

In Chief Election Officer Keith Lowenfield’s initial summation of the Observation Reports generated during the National Recount, he included an alternative count of the votes cast at the March 2 polls. Lowenfield, who has claimed that the results of the March 2 elections process do not meet the standard of fair and credible elections, says anomalies have affected almost 60% of the votes deemed valid during the recount. Above is the breakdown of what he suggests is the valid votes by region and contesting party.

Lowenfield says poll results not credible

While confirming that the PPP/C won the majority of votes at the March 2nd polls, Chief Election Officer (CEO) Keith Lowenfield yesterday reported to the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) that the results of the process that he oversaw do not meet the standard of fair and credible elections.

All eyes now on GECOM

With the tedious recount of votes from the March 2nd general elections now complete, all eyes are now on the CARICOM observer mission and GECOM.

PPP/C leads APNU+AFC by 14,317 votes

With the votes from 95% of the 2,339 ballot boxes from the March 2nd elections tabulated, the ongoing  national recount show-ed the opposition People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) holding a lead of 14,317 votes over the incumbent APNU+AFC coalition at the end of yesterday.

PPP/C leads APNU+AFC by 16,371 votes

With the tabulation of the recounted ballots from the March 2nd general elections drawing to an end, by the end of yesterday the opposition People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) had a lead of 16,371 votes over the incumbent APNU+AFC coalition.

GECOM 503 boxes away from recount end

The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) is 97 boxes closer to the completion of the National Recount however the body is no closer to a decision on how to respond to the various “irregularities” raised by the incumbent APNU+AFC.

APNU+AFC seeks answers over voting irregularities

Despite the ongoing recount by the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) determining that it won Region Seven at the March 2 polls, the incumbent APNU+AFC coalition has refused to sign the certification as it claims that the voting district is one in which “massive voter fraud” was perpetrated.

Only 41% of ballot boxes recounted

With only 41% of ballot boxes completed after day 17 of  a 25-day recount process, the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) is to meet today on accelerating the work and how to address claims of irregularities that are being raised by APNU+AFC agents.

58 more boxes completed, only 20% of total

-no word from gov’t task force on increasing work stations After 10 days of counting the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has processed 479 of 2,339 ballot boxes, 58 of which were recounted yesterday but it is still awaiting word from the COVID-19 task force on increasing the number of workstations to meet its deadline. 

48 more boxes completed in recount

The votes from another 48 ballot boxes were tallied yesterday when the national recount entered its fourth day, bringing the grand total for the process to 156 of the 2,339 boxes generated from the March 2 general and regional polls.

GECOM recount inches along with 43 more boxes

Forty-three ballot boxes from the March 2nd general elections were recounted yesterday, bringing the three-day tally to 108 of 2339 boxes and upping the pressure on GECOM to decide how to quicken the process that has been slowed by numerous queries from the incumbent APNU+AFC.
