GGMC workers break away from GPSU representation

Loss of good faith between the Guyana Public Service Union (GPSU) and its Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) branch, has led to the formation of a breakaway body, the Guyana Civil Servants and General Workers Union.

Guyana Goldfields building new airstrip

Guyana Goldfields Inc is currently building a new 2,000-metre airstrip at the Aurora Gold Mine (AGM) on the Cuyuni River to replace the one in use as the dike of the mining pit is being extended to include a section of the current runway.

GPL to pay managers 3.5 % increase by end of May

The executive body of the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) has agreed to pay managers a 3 ½ % increase across the board by the end of May, and 2017 allowances by June, the Chairman of Guyana Public Service Union’s GPL branch related on Friday.

48 Ann’s Grove women graduate from business workshop

AFC says constitution reform still priority

Stressing that constitutional reform was still a major priority of the Alliance for Change (AFC) even though three years have elapsed without progress,   Chairman Khemraj Ramjattan said that he was optimistic that the process can be completed before the 2020 Regional and General Elections.

CCJ affirms acquittals of Lusignan massacre accused

The Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) yesterday affirmed the acquittals of James Anthony Hyles and Mark Royden Williams, who in 2013 were found not guilty by a jury of the 2008 murders of 11 persons—including five children who were shot and killed during what has become known as the Lusignan massacre.

Gov’t welcomes PPP/C motion on Suriname piracy

The motion brought by the Opposition PPP/C calling on Government to state what actions it has taken to collaborate with the Government of Suriname on Guyanese fishermen brutally attacked and some murdered by pirates in Surinamese waters on April 27th, was unanimously supported in the National Assembly last evening.
