US$25M loan from CDB for sea defences, climate change

The Government of Guyana will receive a loan of US$25 million from the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) for a project which will protect a number of communities from flooding and other hazards brought on by climate change, a release from the CDB said.

GPL suffered shutdown in Demerara system

Despite its assurances to the public of reliable service for Christmas, the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) experienced a series of technical problems on Saturday and yesterday, including a total shutdown of the Demerara system,  leading to frequent blackouts which left citizens up and down the coast and in the city fuming.
