China’s Hubei province sees surge in coronavirus deaths on switch to new methodology

BEIJING/SHANGHAI,  (Reuters) – The death toll in China’s Hubei province from a coronavirus outbreak leapt by a record 242 today to 1,310, with a sharp rise in confirmed cases after the adoption of new methodology for diagnosis, health officials said.

WHO brands coronavirus “public enemy number one”

GUANGZHOU, China/GENEVA, (Reuters) – The coronavirus outbreak in China may be over by April, the country’s senior medical adviser said today, but deaths surpassed 1,000 and the World Health Organization (WHO) warned of a global threat potentially worse than terrorism.
