President and AG should not have non-taxable salaries

Dear Editor, The 2016 national budget speech argues that this budget seeks to address inequalities and discrimination with a heavy emphasis on increased taxes/licences and tax collection, especially from the persons who are categorised as “self-employed”.

Nagamootoo’s claims of disqualifications ring hollow

Dear Editor, This is in reference to the article captioned, `Nagamootoo says suffered major disqualifications’ (SN Feb 10), which said that while in the PPP he suffered these disqualifications because he is/was “not Hindu” and he was/is “not a communist ideologue or Soviet educated Marxist/Leninist”.

Is the GSPCA still a humane society?

Dear Editor, A few days ago a 73-year-old pensioner, who resides at Melanie Damishana on the East Coast of Demerara, called the Guyana Society for the Prevention and Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA) and explained to them that she had a slut dog who had recently dropped eight puppies and also another dog she would like them to collect.
