Letters to the Editor

Welcome Styrofoam ban

Dear Editor, At last and finally we read from the news that this Government will ban Styrofoam containers for sale and or use in Guyana.

Sell the rights to the naming of public assets

Dear Editor,   The time has come to sell the rights to naming of public assets to monetize these assets to fund sports and cultural activities for youths Companies and individuals should be able to pay millions of dollars for the naming rights of the Botanic Gardens or the Harbour Bridge or the National Stadium; even the right to naming Main Street.

Trust and hope are threatened by disillusion

Dear Editor, I am stumped. If the public service is depoliticized and social cohesion crawls to some trace of reality (both very high improbabilities), then what is the relevance of political parties as we have and know them?

Former President Jagdeo has limited immunity

Dear Editor, Two recent articles in Stabroek News refer to presidential immunity: ‘AG to seek civil action over Pradoville 2 – says Jagdeo immunity open to question’ (SN 16 October) and ‘Ex ministers should be held liable over Pradoville 2 land – State Assets Recovery report’ (SN 15 October 2015).

The Diwali date is November 10

Dear Editor, If what is being articulated by some representatives of the Hindu community were to be realized, then, for the first time in Guyana, there could be two celebrations for Diwali on different nights.

There must be some clarification from gov’t about the architects of the controversial hikes and whether they were legally authorised to do so

Dear Editor, As a follow-up to Ms.Nicole Cole’s letter, `The government lied’ (SN, October 16), I think it is safe to conclude the coalition government’s decision to hike salaries for its swollen cabinet and MPs is set in stone, not only because of cabinet ministers’ insistence it is fair, necessary or irreversible, but because it was actually placed first in the Official Gazette, which is traditionally where it would be placed after Parliament debated and legislated on any motion.
