Dear Editor,   Paul Nehru Tennassee, former President of the Democratic Labour Movement (DLM) in the 1980s and early 1990s, at public meetings and in his writings had suggested that Guyana establish a corporation, calling it the Guyana Essequibo Corporation , as part of a strategy to deal with the resolution of the Guyana-Venezuela controversy, so Guyana would develop an enduring new pole of development and fulfil its continental destiny.

Dear Editor, Over three weeks ago it was publicly announced that Ms Sattaur, the Registrar of the Land Registry, had been sent off on administrative leave from her duties.

Dear Editor, The dismissal of female employees of the City Constabulary on the basis of pregnancy is a violation of Prevention of Discrimination Act, the constitution, the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development and many other international human rights instruments signed and ratified by the Government of Guyana.

Dear Editor, In August 2014 the crude oil market price was US$105 per barrel, and the average gasoline price was between $4.00-$4.50 per gallon in the US.

Dear Editor   This nonsense about cabinet ministers’ monetary rewards keeps going on and on in the press, and people keep asking me what I think about it.

Dear Editor,   Former Chancellor of the Judiciary Cecil Kennard has chided a city magistrate for imposing a light sentence on two youths aged 20 and 21.

Dear Editor,   According to media reports the Private Sector Commission (PSC) has cautioned government not to withdraw some $60 billion from the commercial banking system.

Dear Editor,   The sacking of the three members of the Georgetown City Constabulary for getting pregnant is not only discriminatory, it is also blatantly unlawful.

Dear Editor, The Council of the University of Guyana should function in keeping with its statutory responsibilities as set out in University of Guyana Act, Chapter 39:02 which states in part as follows: “Subject to this act, the Council shall have power to do or provide for any             act or thing in relation to the University which it considers necessary or expedient in its capacity as the governing body of the University, and                 conferring of particular powers on the Council by other provisions” (Section 13 (1), including the election of the Pro-Chancellor from among its membership, and the appointment of the Principal and Vice Chancellor who shall be the academic and executive head of the university(Sections 10 &11).

Dear Editor, In reference to the article written by Mr Ramkarran on ‘Sean Hinds’ and death squads (Sunday Stabroek, July 26) I would like to submit the following observations (edited) that were made contemporaneously with the events referred to by Mr Hinds.

Dear Editor,   While it is prudent for individual states to refrain from interfering in the domestic political affairs of other nations, the state of the world today is one in which countries such as America have come to play a meaningful role in the development of other nations, and indeed, are influencing the outcomes of states at war.

Dear Editor,   The month marks, for those sensitive to some anniversaries, a milestone of unusually powerful significance in the history of the modern world.

Dear Editor,   While I don’t envy Mr Clement Rohee, General Secretary of the PPP/C in his new role as opposition politician and I respect his right to engage, critisise and attack the new government policies or the actions of government officials, this gentleman has a moral and political responsibility to give accurate and correct information at his press briefings.

Dear Editor,   Some quick thoughts are shared on several issues making the rounds currently.

Dear Editor, I have long been an advocate of the death penalty, and this belief has been further strengthened in the face of the current ever-increasing homicides occurring in my native land.

Dear Editor,   If Case Timbers Ltd/Unamco had received one tenth of the understanding and kind consideration BaiShanLin receives from GFC, today it would have been, by far, the premier value added producer in Guyana’s forestry sector.
