Letters to the Editor

Editorial failed to mention exceptional performance of National Rugby Sevens Team

Dear Editor, I was disappointed in reading your editorial (Stabroek News August 10) on ‘Sport and national pride,’ that you referred to the very obvious national pride and elation that Guyana feels over our cricketers winning the Caribbean T20 Championships and thereby qualifying for the Airtel Champions League in South Africa, while failing to mention the exceptional performance of our National Rugby Sevens Team in winning gold for Guyana at the recently concluded Central American and Caribbean Games and winning the Caribbean Rugby Championships for the fifth time in succession.

Surinamese diaspora divided about Bouterse

Dear Editor, With regard to your news story about Suriname’s Desi Bouterse being sworn in as President (SN, August 17), there is a mixed reaction to the President  from Suriname’s diaspora with some backing him and others strongly opposed to him.

The British were made better off by colonizing other peoples

Dear Editor, In a letter in SN by Rev Gideon Cecil captioned ‘The wrong political ideology embraced by our first two leaders destroyed Guyana economically and socially’ and dated August 19,  the Reverend said “We would have been better off today if we were still ruled by the British.”

911 operator was unprofessional

Dear Editor, At approximately 1.20 am on Monday, August 16, just after retiring to bed, I heard intermittent banging at the bottom flat where I live at Lot 14 New Street Cumberland Village, East Canje, Berbice.

Aim cited in editorial too limited

Dear Editor, It was interesting to read your editorial captioned ‘Uncertainties’ in the August 15 issue of the Sunday Stabroek because it shed some light on the confusing nature of our coalition politics.
