Esan Shamshudin continued from where he left off on the opening day to win the prestigious Le Meridien Pegasus Open two-day golf championship which ended yesterday at the Lusignan Golf Course, East Coast Demerara.
Shamshudin, playing with a 17 handicap, shot a gross 88 for a net 71 on the final day following his first day score of gross 83 and net 66.
He had a total gross of 171 and net and a 137 to win the first prize, a return trip to the United States of America.
The winner had taken a slim lead over Ronald Bulkhan, Imran Khan and Alfred Mentore who all failed to improve on the final day and dropped out of the race for the top prize.
Ramesh Amrud, with a handicap of eight, finished second and won himself a week-end stay at Le Meridien Pegasus Hotel in addition to winning a special prize for the best gross (155) in the tournament.
Amrud had a gross 80 on the first day and 75 on day two to finish 155; his net scores were 72 and 67 to finish on 139.
Third position was taken by Hilbert Shields (13 handicap) whose gross total was 157 and net 141.
Christine Sukhram led the ladies with a total gross of 158 and net 146 over the two days.
Gavin Todd won a prize for being nearest to the pin.
Victor Holla, Executive Chef of Le Meridien Pegasus made the presentation to the outstanding golfers.
President of the Lusignan Golf Club, Hilbert Shields, and Raj Sankar who officiated at the presentation ceremony expressed gratitude to the sponsors for their continued support to the Club.
Thirty seven golfers including six females participated in the championship, the final warm-up before the Smirnoff Guyana Open championships slated for this weekend at Lusignan.
