An Guyana Defence Force soldier was placed on $600,000 bail while another man was given bail in the sum of $200,000 yesterday when they appeared before Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle on forgery charges.
Terrence Reynolds, 49, of 58 Ogle Street, Beterver-wagting, East Coast Demerara was charged with falsification of accounts, obtaining by false pretense and uttering a false document.
It is alleged that on March 16 at Camp Ayanganna, being an officer of the state attached to the GDF Credit Union, Reynolds made false entries in demand voucher number 30383 purporting that 17 five-gallon pails of lubricating oil were required by the GDF Credit Union.
He then proceeded on the said day to the Shell Service Station on Vlissengen Road where reportedly with intent to defraud he obtained from Keith Bernard the said lubricating oil valued at $214,983 after falsely pretending that he was authorised by the GDF credit union to uplift it.
Reynolds was also charged with uttering a forged GDF Credit Union demand voucher to the said service station to uplift the 17 pails of lubricating oil.
