GRA lost tax file

Dear Editor,
Lolita Hick’s letter in SN of May 2, 2008 (‘No income tax refund’) caught my attention and has caused me to revisit a personal matter which I had with disgust, abandoned approximately two years ago.

The attached letter previously handwritten was addressed to GRA Commissioner Sattaur and was hand delivered by me. After numerous telephone calls and three visits to the GRA in the GPO office on Robb Street, with no resolution, I gave up.

“Dear Sir,
“This letter is by no means intended to jeopardize or embarrass any of your staff but to seek immediate   intervention.

“Briefly, I was contracted to the Georgetown Public Hospital as CEO which I served from May 1998 to April 2001. My monthly PAYE income tax was nearly $G100,000.

“Sometime in the year 2002 I submitted a professionally prepared tax return to your office in New Amsterdam by hand. After waiting one year I began making enquiries in Berbice, I was told that my file was forwarded to Georgetown. Since that time I have made several telephone calls and have visited the GPO on a number of occasions only to be told that my file has been processed then it had been misplaced, now lost.
