Scrap metal row ends in acid dousing, court told

Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle yesterday remanded a 30-year-old man to prison after he was accused of dousing another man with acid following a heated argument over “short money” for scrap metal.

Terrence Washington of Lot 60 Joseph Pollydore Street, Lodge denied throwing a corrosive substance when the charge was read to him in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
It is alleged that on May 13 at Mandela Avenue dump site, with intent to maim, disfigure, disable or cause grievous bodily harm Washington threw corrosive fluid on Roy Marcus.
Reports reaching this newspaper are that the two are friends and would frequent the Mandela dumpsite to sell scrap metal.
