Constitutional commissions closer, though deadline unlikely to be met

Gail TeixeiraThe June 10 deadline for the establishment of six constitutional commissions in keeping with a commitment to national stakeholders on crime would not be met, but the process was ongoing and they should be set up soon after, spokesperson Gail Teixeira said.

Amna AllyThe groundwork has been laid for the establishment of some, with the Rights of the Child Commission being the first likely to come into being, shortly after the deadline. The six commissions comprise the five rights commissions, four of which fall under the purview of the Committee of Appointments, and the Procurement Com-mission which is being dealt with by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
