I was in Trinidad at the time of the writing of this letter and on my way to the airport I heard on 94.1 FM of the refusal of entry visas to some Guyanese. This brings the number of Guyanese who were refused entry to over 150 for the year so far.
I would like to ask Dr Luncheon, Mr Rohee and the President of Guyana what they will do about the attitude of the immigration authorities in Caricom states? Is this how the Trinis and Bajans intend to foster a union of the states as ‘sister countries’? Will the powers that be allow this act by immigration officials in these countries to go unpunished? Are we to expect that our officials are so happy to have citizens from other Caricom states here that they will do nothing while we, the Guyanese, are treated like beggars in their country?
