Girl dies after lorries collide

An 11-year-old girl died while her 7-year-old brother was treated at the Diamond Diagnostic Centre (DDC) after their uncle reportedly lost control of the lorry they were in on the Coverden, East Bank Public Road.

Dead is Ilaleema Jhaman who was with her brother Joshua Jhaman in their uncle’s motor lorry GGG 9651 when around 9 am, the man allegedly lost control of the vehicle and collided with another lorry that was parked on the road.

The children were taken to the DDC where Ilaleema was pronounced dead on arrival and her brother treated and sent away.

According to a police press release the uncle escaped from the scene of the accident but efforts are being made to locate him. Investigations are continuing.
