ECD/Mackeson Stout Premier League…

Stalemates order of the day

Stalemates were the order of the day when action in the East Coast Demerara/Mackeson Stout-sponsored Premier League competition continued at the Beterverwagting ground last Sunday.

In the first game of the double header affair, both Black Stallion and Golden Stars failed to find the back of the net while Mahaica Determinators were held to a draw  by defending champions and home team BV/Triumph United who equalized twice to ensure the points were shared in their encounter.

Originating out of Vryheid’s Lust, Black Stallion who is rated number eight in the league and lost their first two games, must thank their lucky stars when they came away with the point as Golden Stars out of Golden Grove missed numerous scoring opportunities that were created.

The Determinators/BV/Triumph United clash was a stern test for the home team who had to withstand the early pressure applied by their opponents who came out for business with their speed and direct passes that left the host’s defence bewildered.

From such buildups, Tremaine Richmond was able to find the back of the net in the 17th minute while his team mate Clovis Wilson was also on target 12 minutes later when he too outran the defence and scored.

But BV/Triumph did make good use of the lone opportunity they had prior to lemon time when the veteran Shawn Daniels pulled one back for his team in the 41st minute which saw the score line reading 2-1 in favour of Determinators at the half.

Both teams fought valiantly to seize the initiative in the second half, but Determinators can only blame themselves for coming away with a point as they failed to capitalize on the numerous scoring opportunities that presented itself to them, while their more illustrious opponents made their lone opportunity count, thanks to Delroy Deen who scored the equalizer in the 79th minute.

Action in the tournament will continue tomorrow evening at the Plaisance Community Centre ground when former East Coast, Mayor’s Cup and Kashif and Shangai champions Victoria Kings will take on Golden Stars from 18:00hrs and  BV/Triumph will face Anns Grove from 20:00hrs.
