A losing battle? Part of the river defence along the Craig Public Road, East Bank Demerara. Gabions, stones and rocks in wire mesh cages, were used some weeks ago to form a barrier between the road and the Demerara River, which at this section of the EBD road, runs right alongside it. The sinking of the gabions seems to indicate that the soil along the river bank is unstable.
