The family and relatives of a young woman are anxiously awaiting word on her whereabouts a week after she went missing.

Ashaki Coppin, 18, of 42 South Amelia’s Ward, Linden, has been missing since last Wednesday. Her mother, Rhonda Coppin, told Stabroek News that she last spoke with her daughter by telephone, when she informed that she was on her way home to unlock the door for her siblings.

The woman recounted that her daughter, who is a student at the Linden Foundation Secondary School, had left home earlier that day to complete a school project. Afterward, she went to her mother’s salon, from where she contacted her to say she was going home. The mother told the daughter to clean fish, which would be cooked for supper when she got home. “I decide to close early and I went [home] to cook and I see the children tekkin’ window for the door,” the woman explained, adding that when she inquired about Ashaki’s whereabouts, they told her, “‘No. She ent come home.’” She added that when the girl’s friends later inquired about her later, she realised that something was wrong.

The elder Coppin said she tried calling her daughter’s cellular phone but it was turned off.

She made a report to the police station the next day. She said her daughter has no boyfriend and has never slept away from home.
“She is like my clutch purse,” the worried woman said, “People are asking how come me alone walking.”

Ashaki Coppin was last seen wearing a black and silver top, a pair of dark blue three quarter pants and black sandals. Anyone knowing her whereabouts is asked to contact her mother at 643-5826, her aunt Charlene at 617-1348 or 671-9886 or the nearest police station.
