A vendor was shot and robbed on Sunday by two gunmen who had confronted him moments after he had exited his car at the Plaisance/Sparendaam market.

Gansham Persaud, 47, of Hope West, Enmore, East Coast Demerara sustained a gunshot injury to the left leg during the incident and was treated at a private hospital. According to a police press release issued yesterday, the incident occurred around 1.15 pm.

Investigations have so far revealed that Persaud, who is a vendor at the market, had just exited his motor vehicle when he was confronted by two men armed with handguns. The men made efforts to take away the gold jewellery, he was wearing at the time, but Persaud resisted and was shot in his left leg. The perpetrators then took away the jewellery and escaped.
