Jamaican Deejay and selector Tony Matterhorn is set to perform in Guyana after the final of the Kashif and Shanghai Football Tournament which is set for January 1, 2009 at the National Stadium, Providence.
Co-Director of the Kashif and Shanghai organization Kashif Muhammad explained that given the fact this is the first time in the tournament’s 19-year existence that the final is being played in Georgetown, they needed to bring the same atmosphere of what people were accustomed to in Linden.
“Normally, over the years, people would go to Linden for the football finals and after that there are a host of parties and street jams. But this year we felt that even though the atmosphere is a bit different, we have to do something in the line of entertainment.
“So we felt that we needed someone with much hype and who the Guyanese public want to see, hence Tony Matterhorn.”
The ticket to the final, which is $1,000 also allows patrons entrance to the show. However if persons just want to attend the show, the price is same.
“It’s actually a gift because nowhere will you pay so little for so much entertainment. I think its going to be great because we predict an exciting final and everyone knows what Matterhorn has to offer, so definitely the place to be on New Years Day is at the National Stadium,” the promoter said.
Tony Matterhorn, born Dufton Taylor Jnr, also calls himself “The Man from Mars”. He is set to arrive in Guyana on December 31 and according to the organizers, he will be making special appearances at Old Year’s Night parties around the city.
Matterhorn is no stranger to the shores of Guyana; the last time he was here on July 9, 2007 at the National Park, his show was almost sold out and he had vowed to return whenever he is called upon to do so.
The artiste, who was more known for being one of the best selectors in the Dancehall business after winning many sound clashes, made the cross over to becoming a Deejay when he recorded the controversial “Dutty Wine” in 2006.
Despite worldwide criticism of the tune that was reportedly blamed for the death of one woman in Jamaica while she was performing the dance, Matterhorn’s career in the deejay industry catapulted to another level.
Apart from Matterhorn, local entertainers, the likes of Fojo and Jory backed by the Brutal Jammers Band will also entertain. The concert will take place immediately after the presentation ceremony.
