Arthurville Girls and Sans Souci Boys claim top honours

Arthurville and Sans Souci Primary schools are the victors of the Wakenaam Island 12th End-of-School-Year Primary Schools Girls and Boys Windball Cricket Championships which was sponsored by AL Sport & Tour Promotions, Guyana Teachers’ Union (GTU) and Stereo Sonic.

In the final at Seerams Hard Court on the rain hit day, parents showed up to give full support to their children as Arthurville Boys defeated San Souci Boys after a terrific run chase while San Souci Girls were successfulafter a run chase against the Arthurville Girls.

The tournament was declared open by President of the Essequibo Cricket Board & Treasurer of the Guyana Cricket Board Sheik Ahmad, who also provided snacks for the participants.

In his remarks he said he was pleased to be associated with the programme and also thanked AL Sport & Tour Promotions and all the others who were involved in bringing the programme to Wakenaam.

In the Boys final Sans Souci  batted first and rattled up a score of 76-3 from their six overs with Purnanand Persaud leading the way with 27. He received support from Navindra Sooklall who made an unbeaten 18 while Arvindra Rai took 1-15 for Arthurville.

In reply, Autherville slammed 77-2 from just 3.5 overs as Player of the finals, Rai, hit an unbeaten 49 which included seven sixes to add to his one wicket and along with Kashieef Duncan (12) steered them to victory.

The Girls final saw Autherville winning the toss and taking first strike, posting a total of 52-2.  Trevon Payne (21) and  Towanda Clementson (13) were the top contributors with unbeaten scores while Fazeena Hamid with 2-8 was the pick of the bowlers for San Souci.
Sans Souci at one stage of the game needed 40 from 4 overs in reply and the game came down to seven runs from six balls but wides (15) and no balls (5) played a major role in getting them over the line.

They finished on 53-1 off 5.3 overs.   Hamid with 13 was named as Player of the Finals and she was supported by Ludean Black and Kumrai Singh who both made 10 as Payne grabbed the only wicket for 10 runs.
