20090928frontpicWork has quietly re-started on the Casique Palace, Suites and Banqueting Hall at Providence on the East Bank Demerara. It had been put up for sale in June last year.
It is now being painted and the incomplete roof on the front part of the building has been finished. There is evidence of ongoing work. This newspaper was unable to get in touch with anyone connected to the hotel for comment last week. The structure was supposed to have been completed in time for Cricket World Cup 2007 and government had advanced $35M for rooms for use during the Guyana leg. It is unclear if the money has been repaid. President Bharrat Jagdeo had said in June last year that he hoped that the hotel would be completed by new investors.
