A 32-year-old miner who allegedly chopped his mother with a cutlass after she had reprimanded him about his anger issues was yesterday remanded to prison when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
The allegation is that on October 17 at Georgetown, John Hutson of 39 Austin Street, Campbellville unlawfully assaulted Yvonne Hutson so as to cause her actual bodily harm.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge of unlawful assault when it was read to him by the acting chief magistrate.
The prosecution told the court that on the day in question the accused went home in an angry mood and broke the banister and when his mother spoke to him about repairing it and having control of his anger, he “lashed out at her with a chop.”
When given a chance to respond, the defendant told the court, “I’m innocent of the accusations, I didn’t do it.”
The virtual complainant (VC) was not present in court.
The unrepresented Hutson was subsequently remanded to prison until today.
