Fudadin’s XI win third practice match

Assad Fudadin’s XI won the third practice match by 13 runs over Steven Jacobs’ XI at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground, Bourda yesterday.

Fudadin’s XI batted first and piled on 207-9 from 40 overs with Travis Dowlin making a polished 70 and Christopher Barnwell scoring an even half century. Royston Crandon had the next significant score with 41.

Medium pacer Esaun Crandon and fast bowler Brandon Bess were the best bowlers with figures of 2-25 from five overs and 2-30 from six overs respectively. When Jacobs’ X1 batted their time at the crease expired in 38.3 overs as the team reached 194 all out.

Essequibo’s batting all rounder Delon Heyliger, who was included in the 25-man squad as Guyana prepares to host the West Indies Cricket Board President’s Cup tournament on October 28, grabbed 3-36 from seven overs.

The younger Crandon sibling, who recently returned from South Africa where he was in the WI team in the ICC Champions Trophy Tournament, had 2-41 from eight overs.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday Jacobs’ XI defeated Leon Johnson’s XI in a rain-affected 35-over encounter. Jacobs’ XI made 211-6 as Fudadin scored a sound 49 which included four boundaries and two sixes when he batted for Jacobs’ XI. Sewnarine Chattergoon stroked five boundaries in his innings of 44.

Heyliger was again among the wickets with 2-27 and Deon Ferrier supported well with figures of 2-33.

Rain stopped play at 15:10 hours when Johnson’s XI were struggling at 102-7. The stylish Richard Ramdeen and Johnson were the main scorers with 27 and 19 respectively. Veerasammy Permaul bagged 3-17 while Barnwell took 2-28.    

The squad is also preparing for the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Twenty20 Cricket Festival tomorrow and Saturday at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.

Guyana, Barbados, Jamaica and the United Chargers of the USA will be the teams participating in the festival that will see the winning team pocketing US$8,000.

The proceeds from the games will go towards the development of cricket at all levels in the country.
