Accused of maliciously damaging sheet of glass

Donette Skinner, a 36-year-old mother of two of Camp Street, was remanded to prison shortly after she appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on a charge of damage to property.

Skinner pleaded not guilty to the charge when Magistrate Nigel Hawke read it to her.

The facts of the case are that on October 18, she unlawfully and maliciously damaged a sheet of glass valued $175,000, the property of Zahir Mohamed.

The prosecution made no objections to Skinner’s bail application when she requested it but stated that it should be set in a substantial amount.

The magistrate stated that this was the second time that Skinner was before the court for “breaking glass”.

Skinner, who wore a puzzled expression as she was being escorted out of the courtroom by a policeman, said, “I really don’t understand why I’m here again.”

She is scheduled to make another court appearance on October 29.
