A mother of four, who allegedly attempted to murder a man, was yesterday remanded to prison when she appeared before Magistrate Nigel Hawke at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Kim Iphill, a 48-year-old food vendor of Patentia Housing Scheme, West Bank Demerara, was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge of attempted murder.
It is alleged that on October 19 at Robb Street, she attempted to murder Adrian Braithwaite.
Her lawyer, Patrice Henry, applied for reasonable bail for her stating that the circumstances under which the incident occurred were unfortunate.
He told the court that Braithwaite was involved in another incident with Iphill where he entered her home and maliciously damaged several items. He said that Braithwaite was arrested and charged for that matter.
Henry said further that on the day in question, Iphill was on Robb Street where she has a food stall when Braithwaite approached and attacked her. He said that a fight then broke out between his client and Braithwaite and during this altercation Braithwaite sustained injuries.
He said that Braithwaite was treated at a hospital and sent home.
However, the prosecution stated that its facts about the incident differed from the defence. According to the prosecution, Iphill was the one who had attacked Braithwaite first and this resulted in Braithwaite sustaining several injuries about his body.
The prosecution objected to Iphill’s bail application on the grounds of the seriousness of the offence and also argued that if released Iphill may not return to the court.
The matter is scheduled for another hearing on October 26.
