Unstoppable prevail over Bishops’ High School

Jamaal Duff scored the biggest win of his fledgling table tennis career when he defeated Warren Hackshaw as the Kenneth DeAbreu Table Tennis League continued last Saturday at the Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC).

Playing for Bishops’ High School against the `Unstoppable’ trio of Nigel Bryan, Hackshaw and Dwayne Gibson, Duff defeated Hackshaw 3-0 in one of the biggest upsets of the tournament so far.

The 12-year-old pint sized racquet wielder narrowly failed to give his team the victory after he went under to Gibson 2-3 as Unstoppable took the encounter 3-1.

In the advanced players category (Division ‘B’) there were two wins each for the ‘Smiley Faces’ team of Natalie Cummings and Remy Taitt and ‘Unstoppable’.

Smiley faces defeated the Bubblegum Warriors team (Brandon Baldie and Anthony Niles) 3-0 and Bishops’ High School (Denzel Duff, Jamaal Duff and Chelsea Edghill) 3-2 with Jamaal Duff getting past Natalie Cummings in a hotly disputed encounter.

Unstoppable second win was against Bubblegum Warriors whom they defeated by a 3-1 score.

And, NP’s Electronics spearheaded by Michael Vieira and Bruce Murray  scored two wins defeating  NDR (Akecia Nedd, Denzel Duff and Adielle Rosheuvel)  3-1 in their Intermediate Category (Division C) clash and Bank of Guyana 3-0 in the business corporation category.

In the advanced category competition, Snipers (Joel Alleyne and Hewley Griffith) defeated Halex (Jody-Ann Blake and Xen Goliath) 3-1 while Terror Squad (Samuel Fraser and Joseph Johnson) defeated Dragon Warriors (Dillon Mahadeo, Alistair Parks and Kyle Edghill) 3-1 in a `C’ division encounter.

However, Terror Squad lost to Gaza (Jamaal Duff and Sunil Logan) 2-3.

The semi intermediate grouping (Division ‘E’) saw Dragon Warriors (Elishaba Johnson and Alistair Parks) upset by Turbo TT (Brandon Gomes and Sachin Panday) 1-3 while Dominators (Chelsea Edghill and Priscilla Greaves) beat KRS (Kyle Edghill and Stefan Corlette) 3-0.

Meanwhile Top Spin (Carl Handy and Zane Rogers) defeated Eagles (Raymond Seebarran, Gerard Budhan and Shannan Ganga) 3-0.

In other business corporation category results (Division ‘D’). Nigel’s Supermarket (Christopher Franklyn and Joseph Johnson) defeated Western Union (Hewley Griffith and Lisa Lewis) 3-1 while NP’s Electronics (Michael Vieira and Bruce Murray beat Bank of Guyana (Carlyle Bowman and Leonardo Butcher) 3-0.

The tournament continues today at the same venue from 4.30pm.
