Yassin reposes confidence in new GLTA president

President of the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) K. Juman Yassin yesterday said though he was disappointed with the standard of lawn tennis in Guyana he had every confidence that new president of the Guyana Lawn Tennis Association (GLTA) Christopher Ram would be able to lift the standard.

Yassin made the remark while delivering the feature address at the opening of the annual GLTA Le Meridien Pegasus Open tournament yesterday.

“At the moment tennis does not seem to be improving and things need to change. But I believe that with the new president and committee members, things can move forward for the association and these youngsters we see here today.”

The Pegasus Open event was officially opened with a ceremony to recognise all significant persons who will be part of the two-week activity which ends on November 8.

The tournament, which is fully sponsored by the hotel, will feature the top players from most of the categories.

Coordinators Phillip Squires and Shelly Daly Ramdyhan both made short addresses to players thanking them for being a part of the tournament while asking for their cooperation.

Deputy General Manager of Le Meridien, Pegasus, Susan Isaacs, said that the tournament will coincide with other fun activities as the hotel celebrates its 40th anniversary on November 1.

This event will also mark the first event of the new Executive Committee of the GLTA.

The categories to be contested over the next two weeks are Girls & Boys U12 Singles, Girls & Boys U14 Singles, Girls & Boys U18 Singles, Ladies Open Singles, Men’s Open Singles, Men’s Over 35 Singles, Men’s Over 45 Singles, Men’s Open Doubles, Men’s Over 35 Doubles, Men’s Over 45 Doubles, Men’s Over 55 Doubles, Men’s Over 65 Doubles and Mixed Open Doubles.
