A 66-year-old rice miller and his wife were having dinner in their Letter Kenny, Corentyne home when they were attacked by gunmen and robbed of more $500,000 in cash and other items.
Mohamed Hakim called ‘Teacher’, of Section ‘B’ Letter Kenny, Corentyne, Berbice and his 61-year-old wife Silvia were attacked by two men armed with guns in their home at about 9 pm on Friday. Hakim, police said, was tied up by the intruders who proceeded to rob the couple of $400,000, US $250, jewellery, one VCR and a laptop.
They were assaulted and their home ransacked by the gunmen who then escaped. The victims, police said, freed themselves and alerted the police who promptly responded. Investigations are continuing.
