National road safety observances begin on November 1 and will be staged under the theme ‘Be Vigilant, Be Wise, Practice Road Safety to Stay Alive’.
The police in a statement said that instead of a week of activities, this year will see a shift in the focus with the period extended to one month starting on November 1. Several activities are planned throughout all the police divisions.
Meantime, the police said they will be enforcing the law as it relates to the non-adherence to sirens. Despite a recent warning, some drivers are bent on showing scant regard for sirens, the statement said adding that country-wide operations to enforce this law will be conducted spontaneously and errant drivers will be dealt with condignly.
The statement pointed out that on Wednesday, a vehicle which failed to adhere to a police siren collided with a motor car in which Police Commissioner Henry Greene was travelling on the East Bank Public Road. However, no one was injured.
