Hopetown ‘Fineman’ remanded on drug charges

Marcel Chesney, called ‘Fineman’ of Hopetown, West Coast Berbice, was remanded to prison when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court for allegedly being found with a quantity of cocaine and cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Chesney pleaded not guilty to two charges of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking when Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton read them to him.

He denied that on November 11, at Lime Tree Backdam, Kwakwani, Berbice River, he had 45 grammes of cocaine and 178 grammes of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.

The cases were transferred to the Bartica Magistrate’s Court for November 24 and the unrepresented Chesney was later escorted out of the court by a policeman.
