Man shot during Arakaka robbery -suspect held

One man is in police custody following an armed robbery which occurred on Tuesday night at 14 Miles Arakaka, Port Kaituma, North West District during which a shop was attacked by a man armed with a gun, who shot a male customer  in the process.

According to the police, investigations into the incident revealed that the armed man entered the business place, robbing shop attendant Maria Campbell while Peter Barnes of Port Kaituma sustained a gunshot injury to his right shoulder. Barnes ran out of the shop and the armed man then held up Campbell and took away a bag containing $300,000 before escaping.

The police stated that the suspect was seen at the Port Kaituma Waterfront yesterday and was arrested by the owner of the shop which was attacked and was later handed over to the police.

Barnes was air-dashed to the City and is now a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital as investigations into the matter continue.
