Robbery charges also for man accused of wounding ex-wife

The Black Bush Polder labourer who was accused of attempting to murder his former reputed wife was on Tuesday slapped with three counts of robbery under arms and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Reports are that on September 19, Sunil Samaroo, 38, of Johanna, North, Black Bush Polder who was armed with a gun broke into the home of Yazid Ally, 35 and robbed him, his wife Kumarie Mohabir, 32 and his sister, Salima ‘Mamzie’ Ally of gold jewellery valued $500,000 and $52,000 in cash.

Samaroo who was remanded to prison on a charge of attempted murder committed on his former reputed wife, Ally, during a robbery was not required to plead to the offences.

The defendant was wanted by the police in connection with the robberies and attempted murder when he surrendered at the Whim Police Station in the company of his lawyer, Rodwell Jagmohan a few days later.

Police prosecutor, Sergeant Michael Grant submitted that bail should be refused because of the seriousness of the offences. In his application for bail, attorney-at-law Jagmohan argued that after he accompanied his client to the station the police saw it fit to release him before the charges were instituted.  The prosecutor responded that Samaroo was released because the 72-hour period to detain a suspect had elapsed. He further said that the charges had not been laid while the defendant was in custody as other matters were being investigated.

Reports are that he was sentenced to six weeks imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to assaulting Ally. Before that he was also facing charges of feloniously wounding Ally sometime in 2007.

However, after being released from prison he never attended his trial for that charge. Magistrate Sohan again read the charges of felonious wounding to Samaroo. He was remanded to prison for all of the charges until October 20 when he will appear at the Mibicuri Magistrate’s Court.

Reports are that Ally was badly chopped during a robbery at her brother’s home when five masked bandits entered and terrorized and rob family members.

Samaroo reportedly inflicted three slashes to her neck, a chop to her head, shoulder and a finger on her right hand causing the bone to be exposed and another finger to be broken. She was rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital, bleeding profusely from the wounds.
