Ganga warms up for regional championship with unbeaten century

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Trinidad & Tobago captain Daren Ganga warmed up for the opening round of the WICB four-day first class competition with an unbeaten century to fire his side to a five-wicket win in the Gerry Gomez North/South Classic on Wednesday. The right-handed Ganga hammered 105 as South, who set a modest 240 to win the annual game, cruised to 243 for five at the Queen’s Park Oval. Ganga’s knock followed up his 92 in the first innings, and signalled at his good form ahead of T&T’s opening game of the regional championship against Combined Campuses and Colleges next week in Jamaica. The out-of-favour West Indies batsman batted for 187 minutes, faced 141balls and stroked 16 fours to record his third century in the Classic. Opener William Perkins was among the runs with 57 from 59 balls with eight fours and he posted 46 for the first wicket with Imran Khan who got 17.

South then lost wickets cheaply as former West Indies Under-19 captain Jason Mohammed (20), Sherwin Ganga (13) and Test wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin (0) all failed to impress as the innings stumbled to 200 for five. All-rounder Samuel Badree then hit an unbeaten 18 to offer Ganga support and guide South to victory.

North had piled up 384 in their first innings with South responding with 361. In their second innings, North were dismissed for a paltry 216.
