Harley Davidson Club of Russia pays courtesy call

The Harley Davidson Club of Russia paid a courtesy call on the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport at its  conference room on Main Street.

Leader of the group Dmitry Khitrov expressed delight that the group of eight riders will be starting their journey tomorrow for Boa Vista in Brazil and then to Venezuela and back to Guyana.

Khitrov said that they intend to  visit Angel Falls or Kerepakupai Merú, which is Venezuela’s highest waterfall with a height of 979m (3,212 ft) and a plunge of 807m (2,647 ft) and Mount Roraima (also known as Roraima Tepui or Cerro Roraima in Spanish, and Monte Roraima in Portuguese, the highest of the Pakaraima chain in South America.

The towering Russian said that the purpose of the ride, which will be done by terrain motorcycles, is to appreciate that we live in a beautiful world with diverse cultures. He said events of the expedition will be reported back to agencies in his homeland of Russia, including the Tourism Ministry.

Khitrov said that the group has embarked on many such expeditions around the world and his entourage is just as enthused as at other times.

Further, he stated that every time the group gets to  realise that one culture is just as interesting as the other and more especially Guyana’s culture is very  different from what they have seen.

Khitrov reported that the event should last for about nine days and his group intends to explore all that they can for those days. He said that during that time they will be visiting with foreign ambassadors and will also be conducting motorcycle exhibitions for lovers of motorbikes and more especially the Harley Davidson brand.

Sport Minister Dr. Frank Anthony referred to this event as a historic one and the forging of friendlier ties with the two countries.

In the eight-member team are Dmitry Khitrov, Sergey Sadovnikov, Roman Lockshin, Maxim Stefanov, Amiran Lagvilava, Gergei Sherbekov, and Alex Adikoev.
