(Nassau Guardian) – Police are reporting the discovery of large quantities of illegal drugs during three separate operations on Wednesday.
According to police reports, shortly after 10 am on Wednesday officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit – cooperating with officers from U.S. agencies the Drug Enforcement Agency and the US Coast Guard – discovered a large quantity of illegal drugs, suspected to be cocaine and marijuana on board a 44-foot Haitian freighter off Great Inagua. Five Haitian nationals were subsequently taken into custody. Police say they are continuing their investigations.
Also discovered on Wednesday by police was a large quantity of illegal drugs, suspected to be marijuana, in bushes in southern Long Island. According to police, no one was arrested but investigations continue.
The third incident took place some time around 8 am in New Providence. Police officers of the Drug Enforcement Unit executed a search warrant on an apartment at Marshall Road. Those officers discovered sixteen pounds of a substance suspected to be marijuana. The apartment’s 36-year-old male resident was subsequently taken into custody. Investigations continue.
