Fox and Surujbally off to terrific run

There was an early victory for the reigning 55 years and over doubles champions Maxie Fox and Steve Surujbally who outplayed Bobby Khan and Roy Rampersaud by two sets to none when the Guyana Lawn Tennis Association (GLTA) Ming’s Products veterans’ tournament continued at the Le Meridien Pegasus Tennis Courts.

The eventual champions dominated the first set which they won 6-1 then claimed the second set, 7-5 though their opponents managed to put up some resistance.

In the men’s 35 years and over singles, Andre Lopes defeated Harry Panday, 7-6 (7/0), 6-2.

Among the women, Effane Doobay defeated Scheherazade Khan 6-1, 6-3 while Khan later defeated Otilia St. Charles 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.

In other results: Men’s 35 years and over singles, Mario Niamatali defeated Gilbert Barckoy 2-6, 7-5, 6-2 and Harry Panday defeated Curtis George 6-0, 6-0.

The Don Singh/Anthony Amerally encounter is set to be played at a later date.

Men’s 45 years and over singles: Feroz Khan defeated Arnold Madramootoo 6-4, 6-4.

Omar Persaud led Victor Dasilva 6-4, 4-3.

Men’s 35 years and over doubles – Don Singh and Sanjeev Datadin sank Godfrey Lowden and Mario Niamatali 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Men’s 45 years and over doubles – Victor Da Silva and Bobby Khan defeated Stephen Longe and Arnold Madramootoo 6-3, 6-1.
