The Upper Bonasika Primary School on the Essequibo River last Thursday received an outboard engine from the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development to help curb the transportation woes of the students.
Region Three Chairman Julius Faerber handed over the engine along with gas tank and tools to Head Teacher Gloria Gonsalves on behalf of the ministry.
According to a press release, Faerber said the gesture was as a result of persistence from parents and the head teacher who always held the view that children were not attending school because of transportation problems.
“In view of that fact this engine is being given strictly for the use of transporting children to and from school… there should be no abuse of the engine”, the release quoted Faerber as saying.
The parents and the teachers were urged to closely monitor its use and to take good care of the facility.
Gonsalves and Regional Education officer Marlyn Jones-O’Donoghue thanked the ministry for the gesture and assured that due care and attention will be exercised.
