Coast Guard intercepts boat carrying marijuana

Coast guards while returning to Parika from a routine mission on Wednesday discovered about four pounds of marijuana aboard a vessel north of the Hoobu koker.

The patrol, a Guyana Defence Force release said, apprehended the vessel’s captain, Derek Singh, of East Bank Essequibo, after he was noticed acting in a suspicious manner.

He had told the patrol that he encountered some engine problems and was addressing them. A subsequent search of the vessel unearthed the bag of marijuana, which was hidden in its bow. Singh was taken into the patrol’s custody and then handed over to the Parika Police Station along with the illegal substance.
