Berbice telethon draws blood donations

A telethon to secure pledges for blood donation was held for the first time in Guyana by the Berbice Regional Health Authority (BRHA) at the Little Rock Television Station in New Amsterdam on Thursday evening.

Persons in various parts of East and West Berbice pledged a total of 106 units of blood, surpassing the target of 100 units. Due to the tremendous response, some of the pledges had to be taken from two other telephones off air.

Minister of Health Dr. Leslie Ramsammy, Chief Executive Officer of the BRHA Dr. Vishwa Mahadeo, National Coordinator for Blood Donation/Ministry of Health Shameeza Mangal and Dr. Arti Sharma made up the panel hosting the telethon.

A blood drive would be held for the first time in West Berbice at Britannia on Sunday April 18 and persons are asked to come out and support the effort.
