Stop the killings!

Stop the killings! Red Thread and its networks, Grassroots Women Across Race and Domestic Violence Survivors Self Help Group yesterday kicked off a one-month focus campaign targeting domestic abuse. The groups staged a picket outside of the Home Affairs Ministry calling for an end to the brutal maiming and killing of Guyanese women. To date 13 women have died as a result of gender-based violence and many others have been injured. In this photo, activists perform street theatre depicting how domestic abuse affects women, their families and the society at large. (Jules Gibson photo)
