The burns on the face of Pretipaul Jaigobin, the GCB assistant treasurer who suffered an acid attack late last month, are slowly healing.

Jaigobin, of 18 Section C, Clonbrook, East Coast Demerara was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) after he was attacked while leaving a Strathspey restaurant. At the time of the attack, Jaigobin was walking with a friend. A strange man walked up to him, told him to leave his friends alone and dashed acid in his face.

Had Jaigobin not been wearing his glasses that night then his eyes would’ve been seriously injured by the substance. He is still a patient in the hospital’s Burn Care Unit. Stabroek News learnt from a source yesterday that Jaigobin’s wounds are slowly healing and have begun to peel. His vision, they said, has improved as well.

Police have been unable to arrest the perpetrator. “It is going to be extremely difficult to make an arrest in this case since the victim admitted that he didn’t see much of his attacker’s face…identification is definitely going to be an issue here,” a police source had said.

Jaigobin had said that he believes the attack resulted from the fact that he has been very vocal about certain irregularities at the Guyana Cricket Board.
